Day Without an (Illegal) Immigrant

Well, it's about 8:30am on May Day, the "Day Without an (Illegal) Immigrant." I just don't know if I'm going to make it. How will I be able function today? I know I can't do anything for myself, I need immigrants to do the jobs "American's won't do." What will happen to me? I'm scared...

UPDATE 1: It's 9:30, and I'm still hanging on. I'm getting a little dizzy, but maybe it's just from the lack of fumes from all the lawn mowers that aren't running today. Oh, and Michelle has a great roundup of multimedia stuff concerning May Day.

UPDATE 2: I just wanted to say a heartfelt THANK YOU/MUCHAS GRACIAS to all those immigrant folk/supports who actually WENT to work today, and sent your kids to school today. Thank you for using your brain, and thank you for being a good citizen. You will ALWAYS be welcome here.

UPDATE 2.5: Tom Tancredo (R, Colorado) has a great piece over at National Review Online about what a day without ILLEGAL immigrants would mean for Colorado. Pretty eye-opening. An excerpt:

Hospital emergency rooms across the southwest would have about 20-percent fewer patients, and there would be 183,000 fewer people in Colorado without health insurance.

OBGYN wards in Denver would have 24-percent fewer deliveries and Los Angeles’s maternity-ward deliveries would drop by 40 percent and maternity billings to Medi-Cal would drop by 66 percent.

Youth gangs would see their membership drop by 50 percent in many states, and in Phoenix, child-molestation cases would drop by 34 percent and auto theft by 40 percent.

UPDATE 3: It's about 1:15, and the United States is still a cohesive, standing country. I, however, have gone blind in one eye and have a strange growth on my shoulder. I think it's staring at me...

UPDATE 4: I may have a problem. The growth (which insists that I call him "Juan") has erected a Mexican flag and has begun a "boycott". I told him that I provide him with nutrients and sustenance free of charge, and I pointed out that he does nothing for me in return that any of my other body parts couldn't do. He then declared me a racist and screamed "VIVA LA REVOLUCION!" I'm not sure what that means, but I wonder if need to go get the Dremel tool and remove "Juan" before things get worse...

Ah, today probably marks the biggest worldwide celebration of May Day since the USSR fell. It's a grand day for socialism, but a bad day for supporters of the free world.

As you know, not all of the houses in my neighborhood are done being built. I don't hear any hammers today. I guess maybe all the builders really are illegals.

As far as the growth-that's just gross honey!

I'm happy to report that school went on as usual (which is interesting since the majority of my school's population is hispanics.) Even more interesting, since several supporting the illegal immigrants were out, the children who truly are "legal" were able to get even more attention from their teachers!! (as it should be:)
