Geekin' Out

Faithful Readers,

I know I've been posting a lot of nerdy stuff recently, but honestly I'm getting tired of politics and what-not. A little escapism never hurt anybody, right? I figure with elections right around the corner, I might as well post something not politic related while I can. Just wanted to let you know where I'm at. Peace!

Wadcutter Voted Today: His Experience

Pretty funny. Slightly salty language warning. Doesn't bother me, but some of you are sensitive. Excerpt:

Just doing my part to ensure that gay couples have the right to hire a sub-minimum wage illegal immigrant pastor to perform their marriage while high on marijuana... or something. Karl Rove probably used a neural shunt to jack his cyborg brain into my Diebold machine and stole my votes anyway.

Enjoy!

Great Interview With The Man, Dave Ramsey

Bethany over at realVerse, has a great video interview with the Man with the Plan, Dave Ramsey. Some good stuff in there, most notably, he may have a reality show coming to CBS! Give it watch, I think you'll like it.

OK, One More For Fun: Beautiful Day

This one is also by NeoMikey, and the music is U2's Beautiful Day, performed by the Christian band, Sanctus Real. The video is from FLCL, quite possibly the weirdest, most engaging, most FUN anime ever produced. The series is six episodes of the prodution teams' imaginations set loose. The song really fits the show to a "T". Oh, pay attention to the characters' mouth toward the end, when the line "I know I'm not a hopeless case" starts. Somehow, he got thier mouths to sync with the lyrics, and it's freakin AWESOME! Anyway, ENJOY! It's FUN!

Edit: There's even more lip-synching than I thought. The first line of the song, pretty much every "Don't let it get away", and a few others are synched as well. Pretty slick.

Superchic[k] True Heroes Video

Found this on YouTube (of course), and felt it was really worth sharing, especially in light of the recent school shootings and what-not. It's by a guy named NeoMikey, a Christian, and it's set to videos from Evangelion.

Evangelion is considered one of the greatest animes of all time, even with its bizarre and depressing ending. Even with that (or perhaps because of it), I've always felt that Eva had a positive message buried beneath all the weirdness (granted, it's a LOT of digging). Apparently, this guy felt the same way. Now, it should be noted, Evangelion is NOT a Christian anime by any means, but it does have many different ideas and themes that will "preach". There ARE a lot of Christian symbols in the show, but they are simply included because the creative team thought they looked cool. Remember, this is Japanese, and they have VERY little exposure to Christianity. Anyway, it's nice to see Christians involved in the AMV scene, as there is so much out there can be used to reach people. If the comments on Youtube about this vid are any indication, he may have reached a few people with it. Hope so. Anyway, take a look. I think you'll like it, even you don't give a fart in a windstorm about anime.

Oh, also notice the few subtitles that are used. VERY effective.

Edit: Mikey also does that cool lip-synching trick on this video, too (as mentioned in the FLCL post above). I didn't notice it at first, but it's definately there.

The Chosen Few

John Milius (Apocolypse Now, Red Dawn, Clear and Present Danger) is set to write the screenplay for the upcoming Korean War film The Chosen Few. The movie is about the Chosin Reservoir battle, and promises to be VERY accurate, gleaning information from survivors and research from the Department of Defense. Here's the blurb:

Writer-director John Milius will pen Korean War pic "The Chosen Few" for Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban's 2929 Entertainment.
Script will be based on Defense Dept. analyst Julie Precious' story "Task Force Faith," which recounts the Chosin Reservoir Battle.
During the battle, a group of 2,500 undertrained and ill-equipped U.S. Army soldiers, along with 15,000 Marines, fought back against the surprise attack of more than 100,000 Chinese troops. After several days of fighting in subzero temperatures, the efforts of the soldiers allowed the Marines to battle their way out.
"For many years, these U.S. Army troops were thought to have 'cut and run' and were shunned for cowardice, while the Marine troops received a Presidential Unit Citation, but over the years, a group of survivors and historians fought to shed a light on what really happened during this battle," Wagner said.
"Chosen Few" is a passion project for Wagner, who will produce with 2929 prexy Marc Butan and Kent Kubena. Precious, an Army veteran and former Korean analyst, will be an associate producer.

I should add that I am particularly attached to this story, as both my grandfather and MissSpeech's grandfather fought in Korea. Additionally, Papa Tom (MissSpeech's grandfather) a Marine, fought IN THE CHOSIN BATTLE! He is one of the "Chosen Frozen", as they became known. He tells some pretty hair-raising stories about it. I can't wait to see how this turns out. Hopefully, it'll have the respect and gravity that is demanded for veterans of "The Forgotten War".

Left Behind Video Game

This is VERY interesting. There is an RTS (Real-Time Strategy) game based on the Left Behind series of books due to come out soon. A lot more info here.

While you will play the single-player campaign from the perspective of the good guys, the multiplayer will let you play as either side. This will raise some eyebrows among some of the game's audience, but Left Behind Games felt it was important to represent both sides in the game. Each person in the game has his or her own life story, which explains their choices in life and how they got to where they were.

From looking at the screenshots and reading the premise, this looks to be a very "real" game. By that I mean it won't have the watered-down, rainbows and ponies approach that most Christian-themed material has when it tries to break into the mainstream market. It actually looks kinda violent, and that's a good thing. It's about Armageddon, after all. I kind of look at most of the Left Behind as a good idea turned into a huge money-making scheme, but this may have some realy potential. We'll see...

Top 15 Conservative Horror Films

As compiled by Libertas. They've made a list of horror movies that support conservative values (as much as a horror flick can, I guess.)

I gotta agree with Number 1:

1. The Exorcist (1973): A Hollywood actress realizes there is a God. A Priest who doesn’t molest children finds his faith and sacrifices himself for another. And Jesus saves the day! How did this one slip through?

It's pretty good list. I probably would have cut it off at 10, though. The other 5 are kind of a reach.

This Kind Of Says It All

This is a satellite picture of the Korean Pennisula at night.

The North is so low on electricity, EVERYTHING is shut off at 9 pm. Except for Kim Jong-Il's place in Pyongyang (the little white dot on the left).

The South, a thriving, capitalist, democratic country, well, just look at it. It really speaks for itself.

Small Aircraft Crashes Into Manhattan Building

Crap.

Here's the blurb:

A small aircraft crashed into a high-rise on the Upper East Side, setting off a fire and startling New Yorkers, police said. There were conflicting reports on whether the aircraft was a small plane or a helicopter.

Fire Department spokeswoman Emily Rahimi said an aircraft struck struck the 20th floor of a building on East 72nd Street. Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows. Video from the scene showed at least three apartments in the high rise fully engulfed in flames.

"There's huge pieces of debris falling," said one witness who refused to give her full name. "There's so much falling now, I've got to get away."

Whether anyone was injured was not known, and it was unclear if the crash was an act of terrorism.

The address of the building is 524 E. 72nd Street _ a 50-story condominium tower built in 1986 and located nearby Sotheby's Auction House. It has 183 apartments, many of which sell for more than $1 million.

No idea if it's pilot error, engine trouble, or a terrorist attack. Could be a lone "youth of indeterminate nationality" going it alone. We'll see...

UPDATE: NORAD has scrambled fighters over major US cities, NYPD flooding streets for "Level 3 Mobilization", protecting government, religious, and other critical areas...

UPDATE II: People trapped, 2 confirmed dead...

UPDATE III: Plane was piloted by NY Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle. He died in the crash.

"...And Bolts of Lightning From His Arse!"

I'll let the story summary speak for itself.

"A WOMAN has suffered severe burning to her anus after being struck by lightning which hit her in the mouth and passed right through her body."

It's like she's an X-man, or something. Talk about a superpower!

Awesome Telemarketer Prank!

You've GOT to hear this. The guy's name is Tom Mabe, and he's a genius. My favorite line:

"As you may well know, Mr. Mabe was a flaming homosexual... Were you his gay lover?"

Gold!

North Korea Tests Nuke

That's just super.

The Norks have nukes now. I'll sleep better at night now, thank you Mrs. Pelosi. More info as it becomes available.

More articles here, here, and here.

USS George H.W. Bush Commisioned

Pretty cool! I bet that was pretty neat to be George W. and get to commision an aircraft carrier for you dad. From the ship's website:

On Saturday, October 7, 2006, Northrop Grumman Newport News will christen the nation’s 10th and final Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, George H. W. Bush (CVN 77).

Good for him. Here's a cool desktop background:

Just had a sad thought: Can you imagine a USS William Jefferson Clinton or God forbid, a USS Hillary Rodham Clinton? I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

UPDATE: Looks like we may be needing it soon (see post above).

Wha..? How the..? Are you kid...? HUH?!?!

Are you freakin' kidding me? Now we're treating them too NICE?!?!??!!

Offered a high-calorie diet and kept in their cells almost around the clock, many detainees at Guantanamo Bay are becoming fat.

Around the clock, except for the 12 HOURS that well-behaving detainees get to exercise!

The meals include meats prepared according to Islamic guidelines, fresh bread and yogurt. With nearly all detainees fasting in the daytime during Ramadan, authorities have arranged for two separate meals — a post-sunset meal and a midnight meal — to be delivered after dark. Traditional desserts and honey are served during the Ramadan observances.

I'm apoplectic. Really. I don't have the words. I blame Bush.

Dow Closes At All Time High!

Women and Minorities hardest hit.

Via Rueters:

- The Dow Jones industrial average set an all-time high on Tuesday, surpassing the previous record made in 2000, as investors bet that sliding crude oil prices will underpin corporate profits even as economic growth slows.

MORE COWBELL!!!

I await our esteemed media's coverage of this event, and to see how "bad" this is for us.

Super Politic Ranting Time!

Thank goodness we have the federal government to protect us. Did you hear what they've done for us? They've made online gambling illegal. WHEW!! I can sleep soooo much better now, knowing that, well, this doesn't affect me at all. Wait a minute...

Is this really what the president and congress need to be spending thier time on? I mean, it's not like we have a WAR going on, or 3 school shootings in a WEEK! But as long as those "evil" online gambling sites are shut down, well, doesn't that just amke you FEEEEEEL better? Aren't you blessed, citizen? Your government is taking care of you, and making your decisions for you. Better now?

You know, the worst part of this is the "reason" they're doing it. I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count. I'll wait...

What was your first thought? If you thought "It's for the children," you WIN!

“Children may play without verification, and betting with a credit card can undercut a players perception of the value of cash, which too easily leads to bankruptcy and crime,” Leach said.

"Won't SOMEBODY think of the CHILDREN?!"

BING!BING!BING!BING!BING!

Oh, sorry, my BS detector just went off.

As conservatives, we're supposed to be against this stupid "nanny-state" type of legislation. I tell you, between this, Mark Foley, Dennis Hastert (don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you, blowhole), and other assorted crap, I've had it with the Republican party. Is there no where for a REAL conservative to turn? I don't want any of these buttnozzles in power. I need to go soak my head.
